When I was exhibiting my wood art at a RHS garden show on a typical British wet day I couldn't help noticing the thousands of people in wellingtons expecting to get a wet and possibly dirty sock when removing their second wellington. I knew this because like millions of others, I accepted getting dirty socks or slippers was part of the process of removing the second boot!
And that's when the idea for Flip Jack came to me, it has just taken a few years for me to do something about it!
Since the boot jack was invented in America in 1887, the design hasn't changed, meaning you place dirty wet boots on the same surface as your clean socks or feet. Changing into a slipper has the same result - a dirty slipper!
Where do you keep a boot jack? Only too often boot jacks are left kicking around on the floor getting in everyone's way, not to mention becoming a trip hazard. That's why I designed a handy wall mount, a sort of docking point for the Flip Jack.
Unlike other boot jacks Flip Jack has three contact points ensuring the wobble often experienced with normal boot jacks, particularly on tiled floors, is a thing of the past.
The wood is protected with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil, a product developed for the protection of wood floors and furniture. It is plant based and provides a hard water and stain resistant finish that will not crack or peel.
Flip Jacks should not be stored exposed to the weather.
The wide 'V' accommodates most boot sizes, from chunky construction boots to kid's wellies. Both sides of the 'V' have a deeper bevel providing a more focused grip on the heel of the boot.
WOOD: The platform is made from premium grade European beech. Beech is uniform in colour with occasional steaks and specks of darker brown. This is a natural variation and adds character to the wood.
PEG: European beech or oak
ANTI-SLIP: The anti-slip panels are designed for luxury yacht decking. The embossed film is kind to socks and bare feet, it is non-abrasive and still possesses high levels of CoF (Coefficient of Friction).
WALL MOUNT: The Flip Jack wall mount is supplied with black screws and wall plugs.
All materials are re-cyclable
There is something about handmade products that make them special; every piece has a story locked in, and every piece is crafted with the passion of the maker.
You will not find a computer operated machine anywhere in my workshop, just simple, traditional tools used by previous generations. A millimeter difference here, a slightly different bevel there, that's what makes handmade unique. And really, who wants the same as everyone else?
Flip Jack is totally unique, that's why I have registered the name and design with the UK Intellectual Property Office, to ensure there is only one Flip Jack.
Lets get straight to it. Yes, you can find cheaper boot jacks made from plastic, you can find a hand tooled leather clad boot jack for hundreds of pounds, and you can find all sorts in between. They will all remove a boot (I think), they will also get your socks dirty (I know), and they will lay on the floor in everyone's way (most probably).
Your money, your choice!
